Who Was Mary Pickford?

Born Gladys Louise Smith in Toronto in 1892, Mary Pickford became one of the most influential figures in early Hollywood — an actress, producer, and studio founder whose career helped define the language of modern cinema.

Known as 'America's Sweetheart' and 'The Girl with the Curls,' she was one of the first true global movie stars of the silent era, starring in more than 200 films and winning the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1930 for Coquette.

Beyond performing, Pickford was a fierce businesswoman: in 1919 she co-founded United Artists alongside Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and D.W. Griffith — giving artists ownership of their work at a time when studios held all the power. She was also a founding member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

This RV is dedicated to her spirit — independence, craft, and the belief that artists should drive their own vehicles, literally and otherwise.
